Safety
Here at Dixie LP Gas/Gas Heat, Inc., safety is very important to us. *Propane is a safe, economical fuel but it can be hazardous if not handled properly. *Propane is a flamable gas which can cause fire or explosion if ignited. *Propane can be ignited by matches, sparks, heat or open flame, etc. *Propane vapor is heavier than air and settles in low places. *Propane has an added odor called Ethyl Mercaptan that smells like rotten eggs.  If you are not familiar with the odor, ask us about it! *If you smell gas indoors, leave your house.  Do not turn electrical switches ON or OFF and DO NOT use the telephone in your house.  Call us from a neighbor’s house. *If possible, turn the gas supply off at the tank or cylinder. *Do not allow children to play near or tamper with propane equipment or appliances. *Have your appliances checked out periodically for maximum efficiency and safety by a certified propane technician.

Training
If you need to change, alter or add propane appliances to your propane system, it is important that you contact a trained professional propane service technician to do the work.  Jobs that seem simple still have safety steps that need to be followed.  Please, watch this short video on “Do It Yourself Safety”.
DIY Safety
Here at Dixie LP Gas/Gas Heat, Inc., we take training very seriously.  All employees are certified by the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) and the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC) in Basic Principles and Practices of Propane.  From there, each employee furthers their education with job specific training.  We continue to stay updated through safety classes, newsletters and on-line classes. As the summer temperatures continue to climb, we want to remind you to NEVER leave a propane cylinder inside an enclosed vehicle. Also, NEVER store a propane cylinder in a garage or enclosed space.  Store spare cylinders outside on a masonary material such as a concrete block.  If you store your grill in an enclosed space, remember to remove your cylinder and leave it outside.
